Keep a Cleaner Sink Trap
Before you remove a sink trap, give the drain a few plunges with a toilet plunger. This will push most of the water out of the trap and will lessen the mess when you pull the trap.
If you have a double sink, be sure to plug the other drain to contain the air pressure. You may have to hold it down while you plunge the drain if the strainer isn’t a screw-down style.
Keep in mind that you should never pour hot grease down the drain as over time, the grease may get hardened and require a technician to repair the issue.

Stop Kitchen Sink Sprayer Hose Tangles
It's always an annoying occurrence when the sink sprayer won't pull out. If you must fuss with it to use it, it may be getting tangled on the shutoff valves.
An easy and inexpensive fix is just at your local hardware store. Purchase a half inch foam pipe insulation and fit it over the shutoff handle and pipes and you shouldn’t have to worry that the kitchen sprayer won't pull up.
This will also keep the sprayer in better shape because nothing shreds the hose faster than scraping it along shutoff valves day after day.

Declutter Vanities and Sink Cabinets
Over stuffing vanity cabinets and sink cabinets can potentially lead to pipes being knocked, loosened, or damaged.
It is always good practice to keep a decluttered and organized space in your vanities and sink cabinets that are near your plumbing pipes to prevent plumbing issues.

Take the Plunge
It is worth it to invest in a high-quality plunger to clear clogs in toilets, sinks, and drains. If you’re planning to clean sink traps, your best to use a high-quality plunger to push most of the water out before removing the trap. The task will be much for more cost effective and less messy for the home owner.

Never Over-Tighten
If you are attempting to tighten your pipes, make sure that you are not over-tightening. A big mistake is over tightening pipes and connections. This mistake may lead to even more issues with your plumbing system in the future.

Clean Out Your Gutters
While gutters aren’t part of your plumbing system, they’re important for keeping water out of your home. Clogged gutters can cause water to sit on your roof, which may compromise the structure over time and let water enter the home.
As a homeowner, water damage is something you want to avoid at all costs. You should have your gutters cleaned out in early spring and late summer and if you have a lot of trees on your property, you may want to plan on having them cleaned out more frequently.

Sump Pump Maintenance
A sump pump is your sole preventative from ground water flooding into the lower level of your home.
Sump pumps have limited warranty, so we encourage the homeowner to stay on top of the expiration date and to replace when the expiration date is coming to an end.

Be Careful Not to Puncture Pipes
Many home improvement tasks that are not related to plumbing, like drilling holes or putting screws and nails into walls, can cause a water pipe to burst and do extensive damage. Prior to puncturing any wall, ceiling, or floor in your home, you need to verify that there is no pipe hidden underneath the surface.
If you don't have detailed floor plans, you may be able to find pipes in walls by using a stud finder, which is a magnetic device that's typically used to find metal frames behind walling surfaces. This way, you'll know how to avoid them in the future and avoid the risk of accidentally bursting a pipe or hitting a wire.

Be careful of what you flush down the toilet
Every so often homeowners flush something they should not, materials that were not designed to disintegrate as well as toilet paper. This could lead to consequences including a mess or having to call a plumber to assist. Even if the flush of the unwanted material does not immediately overflow, it may be harming your home's pipes in the process and contributing to an even larger problem in the local sewer system. You can avoid the inconvenience and damage by making sure you never flush these materials including but not limited to paper towels, wipes, disposable diapers, cooking oil, cotton swabs, kitten litter, and more.
